Arcade like games are always a hit! This variant of skeeball is a great game on its own, but when used in conjunction with review prompts about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, it becomes a great learning experience.

The kids love this game so much that I actually made 2 sets so there can be side-by-side team competition. Storage is not an issue because the pieces are relatively flat.

Supplies needed to make the Gifts of the Holy Spirit game:

  • A big sturdy fruit box bottom (found at a grocery store) that is that is approximately 3 feet by 1.5 feet
  • A flat piece of corrugated cardboard that is approximately 5 feet by 4 feet.
  • 3 or 4 small soft balls that roll well.

How to construct the Gifts of the Holy Spirit game:

Gifts of the Holy Spirit Game Setup
  • Cut 7 holes in the fruit box bottom Make them about 3 inches in diameter.. Use the picture as a guide. Make slits in the 2 lower corners of box so that that lower edge can be folded down.
  • Fold each of the long sides of the flat piece to make rails. Try to make the folds at places that will ensure inserting it into the box with the holes.
  • Label each hole with one of the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgement, Knowledge, Courage, Reverence, Wonder & Awe).
  • Decorate both cardboard pieces with red, orange and yellow colors to symbolize the fire of the Holy Spirit.

Setup of the Game:

  1. Lean the box with the Holy Spirit holes on a stack of Bibles.
  2. Insert the big cardboard piece as shown in the photo so that the sides are up.

To Play the Game:

  1. Have the kids line up orderly to take turns at the game.
  2. Read the first person in line a question about a gift of the Holy Spirit.
  3. When they respond, with what they think is the answer, have them try to roll the ball in that hole.
